A COMPANION FOR LIFE: THE KUMPEL®!
The inspiration for the FLÖZ® series comes from the robust bags and textiles worn by the miners and workers in the heavy industry of the Rhine region. The leather bags, belts and wristbands are produced in a leather workshop where vegetable-tanned hide and leathers are transformed into inspired robust products. The use of an old riveting technique, rendering stitching superfluous, is what makes this collection so special. And what makes it stand out is the robust fastener system. The products from this series are extremely hardwearing: companions for life so-to-speak – their robustness has been proven by underground tests to depths of 1500 metres.

THE KUMPEL® FOR YOUR EVERYDAY TOOLS.
Bags and textiles for miners and workers from the heavy engineering industry have always had to withstand extreme subterranean conditions. Based on the design of the classic workman bag, they offer space for modern tools like mobile phone, laptop and co. The series of bags won the FORM 2009 design prize, awarded by The German Association for Trade and Industry.
“Flöz” is a mining expression for a layer of rock that contains or consists of important and useful elements. The same goes for the Flöz series.
THE LOGO: HAMMER AND CHISEL
Ever since the 16th century this symbol has been used as a symbol for the guild of miners. The hammer and chisel symbol is used everywhere where there is a close link to mining, depicting the two miner’s tools in a cross formation.
These tools were the essential instruments of every miner. And the symbol is still important to this very day. It is still used on maps to mark opencast and subterranean mining areas as well as being used in mines and collieries. As the logo of the FLÖZ® series it is a distinctive symbol for the collection.
WRISTBANDS FROM THE SERIES: TRANSMITTING POWER
The first wristbands of the FLÖZ® series were made from the transmission straps of an old smithy and convey a sense of power. This small batch of wristbands served as the prototype for the existing wristbands and belt straps of the collection.

AFFINITY AND RESPONSIBILITY
It’s not only the appearance of the FLÖZ® series that reflects the close affinity to the Ruhr region. The procurement of the materials and the production are also a reflection of the designer’s connection to his home region: the vegetable-tanned leather, studs and fasteners are all produced in factories in Germany.
All leather products from the series are produced by hand in a small, long-established family-run business in North-Rhine Westphalia. This procedure, honed and perfected over many years of experienced craftsmanship, makes the most of the region’s potential whilst simultaneously supporting it, demonstrating that these items are a lot more than simply another product.
JEWELLERY FROM THE SERIES: SILVER FLÖZ
The design elements of the series are continued in the jewellery range: like a coiled steel cylinder the precious metal is adorned with studs and looks as if it has been constructed like the steel structures of the Ruhr region. Gemstones can also be set into the studs if desired.
